Documentary on International Student Challenges

This documentary project explores the challenges faced by international students studying in the United States, focusing on two key aspects: language and cultural barriers and coexistence in shared housing. Through a reflexive documentary approach, the film presents personal narratives that highlight the struggles and adaptations of students navigating an unfamiliar environment.

The documentary follows two international students of different ages, each offering a unique perspective on the difficulties of studying abroad. Their stories unfold in three parts: an introduction to their background and experiences, the specific challenges they face and, what language mean to them.

Beyond interviews, the documentary integrates observational footage of the students’ daily academic and social lives, visually capturing the realities of studying abroad. By presenting their experiences in an intimate and self-reflective manner, this project aims to foster a deeper understanding of the emotional, cultural, and logistical hurdles that international students encounter, while also offering insight into solutions and coping mechanisms that help them navigate these challenges.
